Abstract
1,043,652. Spare wheel carriers. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Feb. 26, 1965, No. 8281/65. Heading B7J. A segment-shaped member 1 beneath a luggage compartment floor 2 hingedly supports arm 3 itself adapted to support a spare wheel 5 by means of a cord 6 provided with a handle 10 and a vertically movable hook 12 which may latch with a cross-rod 8a on the end of the arm 3. The hook 12 is pivoted to a bracket 13 which may be moved vertically in a guide 14 by rotating a bolt head 15a, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), and an edge 18 of the vehicle body is arranged to swing in the hook 12 as it is raised. After pulling the cord 10 to raise the arm 3 and the spare wheel into engagement with the hook 12 the hook may be raised to lift the spare wheel into its final position by rotating the bolt with a wheel brace. The spare cord 10 may then be wound around a bracket 11. In another embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the arm 3 is attached to a threaded bolt 19 which may be raised by a cord therethrough until the bolt may be screwed into a knob 20 on the compartment floor.
