Abstract

1,043,192 Incinerators. PEMBERTON & STURGESS (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd. March 26, 1963 [March 30, 1962], No. 12399/62. Heading F4W. An incinerator comprises a shaft in which material to be burned is fed under gravity towards a combustion zone at the bottom of the shaft, and includes means for removing gaseous effluent from the combustion zone without passing it through any appreciable amount of unburnt material. The combustion chamber 1 has a flue outlet 4 adjacent to its combustion zone 1a. This flue outlet accommodates the tubular body 2 of a heater comprising a spiral heating element on a ceramic former, Fig. 3 (not shown), and having a nozzle 3 which directs heated air into the combustion zone to initiate and maintain combustion of the material therein. The air is supplied to the heater by a fan, which also forces air through a nozzle 5 in the flue outlet passage 7. The combustion gases are thus induced to pass over the heater body 2 which subjects them to residual heat and further consumes carbonaceous particles, past a Venturi section 6 in passage 7, and so to a flue. A hearth 9 comprises a series of slats which can be tilted into an upright position for the removal of ash.
