Abstract
1,042,770. Valves. W. S. EVERETT. June 25, 1963, No. 25289/63. Heading F2V. In a fluid pulsation dampener, e.g. for the suppression of water hammer in low pressure residential water lines or for high pressure jet fluid lines, a spherical shell 10, of welded construction from three sections 11, 12 and 13, sealingly surrounds a length of pipe-line and is connected with the throat portion 28, of a Venturi section 25, by tangentially disposed openings 29. In response to the closing of a downstream valve, fluid passes through into the shell 10 compressing gas therein to act as a spring and, on reverse flow, creates an energy absorbing vortex in passing through the tangential openings 29, avoiding a reverse shock wave. A valve or vacuum breaker 14, connected to atmosphere or other gas, opens in response to a given pressure decrease within the shell 10 which is also provided with a pressure gauge 15, or inspection plug 19 and a drain plug 24.
