Abstract

The invention comprises an orthopaedic wadding bandage beneath a plaster cast, which bandage is at least partially coloured by a colouring matter which does not migrate at the elevated temperatures encountered during sterilization, the colour contrasting with the colours of the plaster and the flesh. The bandage may comprise cotton wadding defined as being of pure cotton, a mixture of cotton and synthetic fibre e.g. rayon, or even wholly of synthetic fibre, reinforced on at least one face by a skin coloured with the colouring matter. The or each skin may comprise a layer of woven or non-woven fabric which may be held together by gum, synthetic resin, glue or starch, or a layer of gum, synthetic resin, glue or startch, which may be applied by means of rollers, spraying, foaming or other suitable method. The colouring matter may comprise a pigment paste mixed with the gum, synthetic resin, glue or starch, or a dyestuff. The or each skin only may be dyed, or the colouring matter may extend throughout the bandage, or the cotton wadding only may be dyed and the surface skin may be uncoloured. An orthopaedic wadding bandage may be made by mixing a pigment paste with gum, synthetic resin, glue or starch, and applying this mixture to at least one face of cotton wadding, the pigment being non-migratory at a temperature of 280 DEG F. and being of a colour contrasting with white and flesh.ALSO:The invention comprises an orthopaedic wadding bandage beneath a plaster cast, which bandage is at least partially coloured by a colouring matter which does not migrate at the elevated temperatures encountered during sterilization, the colour contrasting with the colours of the plaster and the flesh.
