Abstract
1,041,838. Steam generators; liquid heaters. F. SCHOPPE. Sept. 20, 1963 [Sept. 24, 1962], No. 37169/63. Headings F4A and F4B. A boiler for heating or vaporizing a liquid medium, for example water, comprises a casing 1 containing a radiation space 2 and a convection section 3. The radiation space is divided into open-ended horizontal cells 4 by a tube wall having vertical sections 7b, 7d and sections 7a, 7c inclined equally to the horizontal and vertical tube end walls 6 which extend through the convection section. Fresh water is admitted to elastically suspended feed pipes connected to the pipes forming walls 6, 7 and steam is drawn through pipes 21 from pipes 10 which are connected to the upper section of wall 7 and pass through the convection section. The cells 4 are radiantly heated by liquid, gas or solid fuel burners 5 having conically expanding burning spaces starting at 5a which communicate with acceleration nozzles to impart a high velocity to the gases. Combustion gases emerge from the cells and pass upwards through passages 8 formed by the vertical sections of wall 7 and water conducting walls 9 and are then directed over tubes 10 by baffles 11 in the convection section before passing into the air preheater 13, the cold end of which is made of stainless steel, where the temperature of the gases is reduced below the dew point to enable a considerable part of the sulphur content to be extracted. Air is fed into the preheater through two inlets 14, 15 by a blower 16 and is passed tangentially into the burners. An ordinary regulator maintains the water level at A and varying this level varies the superheater temperature. To prevent water drops passing into the superheater part, filling bodies are inserted into pipes 10. The cells may be formed in a honeycomb arrangement having curved sides, Fig. 3 (not shown), or straight sides with burners at both ends.
