Abstract
In a method for arc welding high strength ferrous work, having a low O, N and Si content, the filler material has the following composition:- C less than 0.14% Si less than 0.036% Cr less than 1.08% Mn 0.66-4.27% Ni 1.1-3.34% Mo up to 4.21% V up to 0.96% W up to 2.17% Co up to 1.33% the remainder, apart from impurities, being iron, and the welding atmosphere is such as to maintain the O and N contents of the weld deposit below 0.0035% each. The filler material may be shielded by a flux or an inert gas. The above material may be used to weld the so-called HY-150 steel i.e. .CO.16-0.2% .Mu.0.4-0.6% .V.0.08-0.12% .Si.0.15-0.3% .Ni.3.6-4.0% .Cr.1.4-1.8% .Mo.0.4-0.6% .P.up to 0.01% .S.up to 0.01% the balance being iron
