Abstract

1,041,715. Hoppers; rotary conveyers. F. K. NABIULLIN, R. G. ADAMJAN, Z. M. BUZOVA, S. A. GANTMAN, E. M. GERTSIK, I. I. ZHURAVLEV, B. V. MARFIN, H. V. SLADKOVA, S. S. SHLIONSKAYA, and L. N. KOSHKIN. June 18, 1963, No. 24187/63. Headings B8A and B8S. Apparatus for dispensing articles singly from a bulk supply consists of a hopper 1, a feed wheel 2 in the form of a horizontal rotary disc with radial passageways 3 (Fig. 2, not shown) for receiving the articles, and an associated rotary conveyer 9 having peripheral grippers 10, this conveyer being rotated at the same speed as the wheel 2 and its grippers being operable to take articles one at a time from the outer ends of the passageways. Hopper discharging.-The hopper outlet opens into a chamber within which a conical deflector 5 is rotated in the opposite direction from the feed wheel 2. At the end of each radial passageway 3 is a pair of retractible stops 12 and 13 which are operated to allow the release of the outer article as it enters the path of the grippers 10. Rotary conveyers.-The conveyer 9 consists of a plurality of rods projecting radially from a rotary disc, each rod carrying at its outer end grippers 10 for taking hold of articles released from the feed wheel 2. These rods are independently rotatable about their respective longitudinal axes, to allow for an article carried by their grippers to be inverted. Orientating articles.-Each article released by the stops 12 and 13 encounters a feeler stop 11 incorporating a plunger 7, and a dished article such as a battery top (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) having its convex face downward will depress this plunger to make a switch contact 7a. This switch effects movement of a cam arm 16 (Fig. 5a, not shown) into the path of a rotary disc 8 to depress one of a plurality of studs mounted therein. Any stud so depressed subsequently makes a switch 17 (Fig. 5a, not shown) before being reset to its upper position by a further cam (22). Each operation of this switch 17 effects downward movement of a cam 24 (Fig. 6, not shown) which raises a peg 28, hitherto moving along a horizontal guide passage, into an upwardly inclined passage. These passages run round the periphery of conveyer 9 and cause a rod 26, to which the peg 28 is attached, to be raised. These rods are in mesh with the rods 15 of the rotary conveyer, which are thus rotated to invert the article carried by the associated grippers 10. Thus the plunger 7 detects improperly oriented articles on the feed wheel 2 and the disc 8 temporarily records the misorientation and subsequently causes re-orientation of the relevant article whilst on the conveyer.
