Abstract

1,040,765. Removing sheets of glass from lifting-dogs. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. Sept. 23, 1963 [Sept. 21, 1962], No. 37328. Heading B8H. A sheet of glass 2, Fig. 6, is removed from a pair of lifting dogs 1 by a support 6 which first raises the sheet vertically to take the weight off the dogs and then moves the sheet obliquely upwards to disengage it from the jaws. The upward lift is provided by a pneumatic ram 16, Fig. 4, having a piston 13 and a piston rod 12<SP>1</SP> which is rotatable by a bevel gear 28 and a splined rod 23. The oblique movement is produced by a combination of upward movement and angular movement of the support 6 to the position shown chain dotted in Fig. 5. The angular movement is effected by a motor-driven catch 36 and bevel gears 34, 35 and associated shafts. The sheet passes through a furnace 44, Fig. 3, and blowers 45 on a conveyer 43, Fig. 6, and is then removed from the dogs at the position a 1 , b 1 , Fig. 3. From this position the sheet is turned through 90 degrees by the transfer mechanism 30-33, Fig. 6, placed in a slot 42 in position a 6 , b 6 , Fig. 3, on a step-by-step conveyer 41. An auxiliary sheet lifter 46, Fig. 6, operated by a ram 47 may be provided but is usually unnecessary.
