1,039,634. Stretching. SCHLOEMANN A.G. Aug. 6, 1964 [Aug. 16, 1963], No. 31981/64. Heading B3E. A gripping head for a sheet-stretching machine, with compensating means for gripping sheet of non-uniform thickness with uniform strength over its entire breadth, the two gripping beams 3 of which are displaceable along planes which make an angle a with the plane of pull of the sheet, is characterized in that gripping jaws 11 are displaceable on each gripping beam 3 in a direction at an angle b to the plane of pull of the sheet which is greater than the angle a of beam displacement. The jaws 11 are individually urged by springs 12, Fig. 2 (not shown), in the direction of the pull exerted by the sheet. The beams 3 are operated by cylinder means 5 through links 7 and 6. Interengaging toothed members 8 on the links 7 ensure synchronous operation of the two beams 3. Interengaging teeth 13 on the beams 3 prevent the sheet from slipping too far in.
