Abstract

1,192,659. Stretching. HYDRAULIC G.m.b.H. 30 July, 1968 [8 Sept., 1967], No. 36386/68. Heading B3E. A method for gripping uneven sheets and plates of non-uniform thickness in a stretching and straightening machine is characterized in that the drawing heads 4 are provideid wth a plurality of juxtaposed clamping jaws 1 slidable on wedge surfaces 3 of the drawing heads, the jaws being advanced together as a rigid unit by a power driven crossbeam 7 until they contact the end of the sheet. The drawing heads are moved in the direction of stretching while the clamping jaws slide over the wedge surfaces as they flatten the end of the sheet, the movement of the drawing heads being interrupted upon completion of the flattening operation or upon initiation of the stretching and straightening operation and, with stationary drawing heads, those clamping jaws which, owing to variations in thickness of the sheet, have until then been unable to bite are advanced by their individual drives 9 so that all pairs of clamps grip the sheet effectively.
