Abstract

1,039,568. Liquefied gas containers. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd. Nov. 30, 1964, No. 48513/64. Heading F4P. The thin metal side walls 9 and floor 7, Fig. 1 (not shown), of a liquefied gas tank are themselves incapable of supporting the load and are therefore supported within a heat insulated housing 1 and are of material having a ratio of elastic stress to thermal stress over the subjected temperature range of at least unity and are covered over substantially their whole area by a plurality of non-intersecting corrugations 8, 10 which meet at the junctions of the floor and walls and said junctions are sealed by metal strips 4 having corrugations 6 engaging the corrugations 8, 10. The latter are formed from strip metal, e.g. stainless steel and aluminium alloys having upturned edges which are welded together. The tank is supported within the housing 1 of closed cell polyurethane by balsa wood blocks 3 secured at intervals around the edges of the walls and floor of the tank, the top of which may be of similar construction to the floor and has a trunk for service conduits.
