[Also in Division F2] In an agricultural tractor an axially slidable sleeve 33, splined to the input shaft 32 of a driven axle differential, in a first position engages splines on the end of an output shaft 31 of an engine driven variable speed hydrostatic drive having a pump and a motor both of the variable stroke swashplate type, to clutch the shafts 31, 32 together, and in a second position (as shown) for towed engine starts or on failure of the variable speed gear, meshes gears 34, 35 to clutch the shaft 32 to a power take-off shaft 16 connected to the engine through a spring engaged friction clutch 23. The output shaft 21 of an engine driven friction clutch (not shown) is drivingly connected to the input shaft 22 of the variable speed gear and carries the input member 24 of the friction clutch 23 which is controlled, e.g. by a pedal, through an axially movable member 28, a thrust member 27, a lever 26 and a pressure plate 25. The output member 23 of the clutch is fixed to a hollow shaft 20 coaxial with the shaft 21 and carrying a pinion 19 meshing a gear 18 of the power take-off shaft 16.
