Abstract

1,039,244. Welding by fusion. MUREX WELDING PROCESSES Ltd. June 28, 1965 [July 20, 1964], No. 29494/64. Heading B3R. In automatic submerged arc welding the electrode is a metal strip of thickness 0À02 inch max., the electrode projection is 1¢ inches max., the current density is 1À8-2À6 x 10<SP>4</SP> amps/square inch and the electrode is traversed in a direction normal to its width. The width of the strip is 1-3 inches. Where the electrode thickness is below 0À01 inch the electrode is curved transversely as described in Specification 1,013,259. The electrode may be used for cladding or jointing including the jointing of roll-clad sheets. The electrodes may be of a nickel-copper alloy, mild steel, chromium steels containing 18-20À5% or 12À5-14% chromium, and chromium nickel steels containing 17- 28% chromium, 9-22% nickel, manganese, silicon and in some cases molybdenum or niobium-tantalum. Examples are specified.
