Abstract
Hydrocabon feed, e.g. light virgin naphtha or petroleum vapour is reacted with steam in the presence of NiO + U3O8 + KOH/K2O or K2CO3 on a carrier of Al2O3 or Al2O3.MgO. The product gases may be coacted over the same catalyst with further quantities of hydrocarbon and steam to yield a higher calorific value gas. Examples describe the reformation of a light petroleum distillate to yield H2, CH4, CO and CO2 at 490-500 DEG C.ALSO:A hydrocarbon conversion catalyst comprises a carrier of Al2O3 or of Al2O3 + MgO supporting NiO, U3O8 and K2O or K2CO3. Additionally the catalyst may contain bentonite. A variety of preparations of the catalyst composition is described.
