Abstract

Ironing-machines with reciprocating iron and stationary table.-Consists in controlling the movements of the iron by means, such as a clutch, which travel synchronously with the iron. In the form shown, the iron D is connected by a universal joint to an arm G provided with a pair of sleeves E sliding on a bar A, on the ends of which are mounted pulleys L, L carrying an endless belt M. Passing through the arm G is a shaft I carrying at one end a handle H, and at the other end a lever K positioned between two pins R on a double forked clutch J slidable in a guide P. By rocking the shaft I, the, clutch is brought into contact with either the upper or the lower stretch of the belt M, and the travel of the iron in either direction can be controlled as desired.
