Abstract
1,038,203. Centrifugal governors. FRANKLIN ELECTRIC CO.Inc. March 6, 1964, No.9711/64. Heading G3B. [Also in Division H2] A centrifugal switch comprises centrifugal mechanism 26 and switch 27. Mechanism 26 comprises a plate 51 fixed to a motor shaft 12 and a plate 61 which comprises a disc 63 attached to a member 62 plate 61 having a clearance opening around shaft 12. Member 62 is attached to plate 51 by tension springs 76 and links 71, 72 between lugs 54, 56 on plate 51 and lugs 68, 69 on member 62. When shaft 12 is at rest, mechanism 26 is in the position shown with the links paralled with the shaft, plate 61 being pulled into this position by springs 76 pulling plate 61 so that the inside of the central opening in plate 61 rests against the shaft. When shaft 12 rotates, plate 61 is moved radially due to the greater mass of member 62 being on the side of the shaft and also moves axially towards plate 51 due to the links 71, 72 to the position in dotted lines in Fig. 3 (not shown). An arm 41 from the switch 27 rests against plate 61 and in the at rest position the switch is held closed by plate 61 pivoting arm 41 about pivot 44, Fig. 6 (not shown) in the switch, when plate 61 moves axially towards its running position the spring 46 Fig. 6 (not shown) in the switch is allowed to pivot switch arm 41 opening the switch contacts. Spring 42, Fig. 6 (not shown) ensures resilient mounting of the moving contacts.
