Abstract

1,038,086. Photo-transistor circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 27, 1962 [Dec. 19, 1961], No. 45471/61. Heading H3T. A photo-transistor PT is stabilized against temperature changes by connecting a diode D in the emitter circuit. At low levels of incident illumination I, PT passes a small current, hence the voltage developed across resistor R is less than the forward voltage of diode D. The circuit thus operates in a grounded-base mode and is insensitive to changes in temperature and illumination. As I is increased, the current passed increases until diode D becomes conductive when the circuit changes to the grounded-emitter mode and becomes more sensitive. A relay L is energized by further increase in I.
