Coins and punched tokens fed down a shoot 38 of an amusement machine are separated so that only the tokens are returned as prizes, the arrangement being such that coins fed into a shoot 39 by a feed bar 31 are diverted to a bypass by a member 44 when disposed in its " shoot-closing " position and tokens are delayed from entering the shoot by a leaf-spring 40b mounted on the feed bar until the member 44 is in its " shoot-open " position. After a handle 10 is depressed to operate a " play " mechanism 23, the arm 24a descends to rotate a bell-crank 35 and move the feed bar 31 towards the shoot 39, detention members 37a being provided to prevent return movement of coins and tokens. A coin on being advanced over the shoot, drops on to the diverting member 44 which is moved across the shoot by a bell-crank 41 connected to the handle. A punched token, however, is retained by the leaf-spring 40b at the end of the forward stroke of the feed bar and is released upon the return of the handle and bar, the member 44 then being in its " shoot-open " position so as to allow the token to continue down the shoot. A spring- urged detecting pin 18 causes a notch 19 to engage and lock the handle in its inoperative position when no coin or token C is present at the foot of shoot 38.
