Abstract

1,037,280. Cutting apparatus. LAMB-GRAYS HARBOR CO. Inc. June 4, 1965, No. 23921/65. Heading B4B. The fly blade F, Fig. 2, of a paper-cutting machine is adjusted relative to an anvil blade A by an adjustable eccentric-bearing apparatus comprising a base having two spaced housings 14 for the anvil blade and a driven mandrel 10, Fig. 5 (not shown), bearing the fly blade and having mounting trunnions 11 contained in bearings 12. Each of the housings comprises a bottom portion fixed to the base and an upper band-like portion with a split 17, Fig. 2, at one side, a bearing ring 18, Fig. 5 (not shown), being rotatably fitted therein. Each bearing ring has an eccentric opening and is externally toothed at 18t so that operation of a wormshaft 19 meshing therewith rotates the ring and thus adjusts the fly blade relative to the anvil blade. since the rings are axially aligned and mount the trunnions and the mandrel equally eccentrically. The bearing rings 18 are retained in their housings 14 by face plates 14f bolted at 14b and provided with marker plates 30, Fig. 2. Adjustment of the rings 18 turns the plates 30 relative to graduated stationary blanks 31. Screws 35 tighten the separated end slits 17 together and clamp the enclosed band portion of each housing about the contained ring 18 to secure it in any position of rotary adjustment. The amount of band opening is controlled by adjustment of locked cap screws 40, Fig. 1 (not shown), applied between the screws 35. The housings 14 mounted on the base bars 15 may also be initially adjusted by screws 42, Fig. 4 (not shown), and 43 mounted in plates 44 fixed to the bars 15. The apparatus may alternatively be employed with a cutter having two co-operating fly-knives.
