Abstract

1,036,887. Photographic processing apparatus. AGFA A. G. Dec.28, 1962 [Dec.29, 1961], No. 46777/61. Heading G2A. A photographic processing apparatus has an endless flexible band which circulates through the apparatus, part of its path being outside said apparatus so that the photographic material may be attached at that point; the said material normally passes from a light-tight enclosure directly through a light trap into the apparatus (but being brought outside for the said initial attachment). In the form shown, the photographic material is conveyed through one or more processing tanks 12 by means of an endless band 16, guided into and out of the tanks by rollers 15,14. During part of its return run, the band is brought outside an end wall 17 of the apparatus. The strip of photographic material to be processed is enclosed in a lighttight cassette 19 which is attached in a holder 31. The leading edge of the film strip 18 is drawn between two rollers 35, 36 by means of a knob operating the latter, and led into the apparatus through a narrow horizontal tunnel 21 acting as a light trap. During normal operation, the film strip then passes round a guide roller 29 and takes the path 28 leading directly to the conveyer belt 16. For initially attaching the leading edge of the film strip to the belt, the strip passes along the tunnel 21 and then continues straight along, to be guided downwards by a curved part 22a of the outer wall 22. The curved wall part 22a continues as a straight part 22b, which eventually terminates at an edge 23. At this point there is a narrow opening through which the leading edge of the film strip passes out, and can then be attached manually, as shown at the loop 25, to the moving belt 16. This leading part of the film strip will of course be fogged, and not usable. After attachment, the belt 16, moving upwards, draws the attachment point of the film back into the apparatus, and eventually the film is once more passing along its normal path 28 from cassette to tank 12, the whole of the film in the cassette now being progressively drawn into the apparatus for processing under light-tight conditions. The apparatus can be adapted for use with more than one film strip.
