Abstract

1,036,441. Locomotives. D. R. PETRIK. Jan. 21, 1963 [Jan. 23, 1962], No. 2480/63. Headings B7H and B7L. A track borne locomotive having wheels of a diameter between one half and the full height of the vehicle is powered by'a jet engine and has an additional prime mover which may be an electric motor. The locomotive is designed for work at very high speed, e.g. 250 miles per hour, and operates within a tube system which may cross lakes or seas in which it floats, anchored to the bottom. The locomotive may be provided with safety arms which co-operate with safety fences to prevent the vehicle leaving the track, e.g. on curves and these devices may provide the means whereby the current is collected for the electric motor. The locomotive may be built up from a welded or riveted " crossbar frame construction " or may be a " threedimensional laminated wall construction." Separate units of the tube system may be joined together by flexible connections.
