Abstract
The invention comprises 6a ,9a -difluoro-11b , 16a ,17a - trihydroxy - 3,20 - dioxo - pregna - 1,4-dien - 21 - al - 16a ,17a - acetonide, and its hydrates, and its preparation by oxidation of the corresponding 21-ol with a reducible metal salt or selenious acid.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-inflammatory activity comprise 6a , 9a -difluoro11b , 16a , 17a -trihydroxy-3, 20-dioxopregno-1, 4 dien-21-al-16a , 17a -acetonide or a hydrate thereof in combination with a carrier, for example in forms suitable for oral parenteral or topical administration, such as tablets, capsules, solutions, suspensions, ointments, creams and lotions. One or more known anti-inflammatory steroids may also be present.
