A floor construction comprises joists 2 with upper surfaces substantially coplanar to support a floor of abutting tiles 1 (Fig. 1) each being supported on supports 3 adjustable in height. The opposite sides of each tile rest on adjacent joists 2 of box-section parts (Fig. 2), connected by spaced transverse tie-rods 4a within spacer tubes 4 (Fig. 1). The support 3 is a tube 8 (Fig. 2) which can be turned, threaded into a channelled joist supporting platform 6a 6b and fitted with a lock-nut 9 to hold the platform at any level by turning the tube 8. In a modification adjacent joists are spaced apart by secondary joists with their upper surfaces substabtially co-planar with those of the joists 2. Each secondary joist is between and is supported at each end on, a support for a joist 2, comprising a cross-shaped channel, in the arms of which secondary joists are held. The supports, the joists 2 and the other joists form a framework to support each tile around every edge. Sound-absorbent material may be laid on the joists under the tiles, which are moved by a suction-device.
