Abstract

Headings B3E and B3V] A method of straightening and straining rod, tube, bar or like metal stock, e.g. of copper or light metal alloy, on hot-straightening benches comprises heating the stock to a predetermined temperature below the recrystallization point, whilst substantially maintaining the stock under a given degree of tensile strain, and maintaining the predetermined temperature substantially constant with the aid of a regulator controlled by a temperature sensing element, which senses the temperature of the stock whilst it is being straightened in conventional manner and submitted to a prescribed degree of strain. Magnesium alloy section is clamped on a straightening bench, heated to a temperature of 240‹ C. by current passed therethrough and applied through the gripping clamps, straightened by conventional straightening tools and stretched to an elongation of 3%. The temperature during straightening and stretching is measured by a thermoelement, resistance thermometer or semiconductor element which controls a regulator to keep the temperature constant. The thermoelement may be connected to the gripping clamp.
