Abstract

1,034,860. Making containers; jointing. BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO. Ltd. Dec. 17, 1964 [Dec. 23, 1963], No. 50667/63. Headings B3A and B3V. [Also in Division B8] A tab 5 is secured to a tear strip formed by weakened lines 3 in the end wall of a container by forming a boss 2 in the end wall without interrupting the continuity of the wall, forming a complementary boss 6 in the tab 5 and joining the bosses 2, 6 together by an adhesive. The metal of the container may be an aluminium alloy and the adhesive may be an epoxy-based adhesive. The end of the boss 6 may be apertured and the walls of the boss 6 may be split or serrated. The tear strip may extend almost completely around the end wall if the container is intended for solids or may extend up to the edge of the end wall if the container is intended for liquids.
