Abstract

1,034,705. Cigarette lighters. ROWENTA METALLWARENFABRIK G.m.b.H. April 28, 1964 [May 8, 1963], No. 17471/64. Heading F4F. [Also in Division F1] A gas cigarette lighter is ignited by sparks between electrodes 12 connected to the secondary 11 of a transformer, the primary 9 of which is energized by an electronic switch, e.g. a cold cathode thyratron or a thermionic valve, or a transistor 4. The lighter is first lifted off a table to allow a spring-urged push-rod 25 to close a switch 27. When a push-button 21 is now pressed a roller 18 runs up a ramp 17 to open a valve 13 to supply gas to the burner 14 and at the same time a switch 30 is closed. The transistor is therefore energized and further movement of the push-button 21 opens a further switch 34 to de-energize the transistor and produce ignition sparks. The circuit includes resistors 5, 6, 26. In a simplified embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the push-rod switch 27 and the normally open switch 30 are omitted. A switch 7 corresponding to switch 34 is arranged to be closed by the push-button 21 to cause sparking. The switch 7 may have momentary contacts so that it opens again. A condenser is connected across the battery. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), an extra winding 40 on the transformer 9, 11 is connected to the input side of the transistor to cause oscillations. The frequency is adjusted by a resistor 45. The push-button can be held in its actuated position by a pivoted spring- urged pawl 47, Fig. 4 (not shown), which engages in a recess 21a in the shank of the push-button. When the lighter is placed on a support the push-rod is moved upwardly and disengages the pawl 47 from the push-button. The burner nozzle 14 is connected by a resilient tube 14a, Fig. 5 (not shown), to the burner valve 13 situated above a fuel tank 15.
