Abstract

1,034,305. Universal joints. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. June 11, 1965 [March 13, 1964], No. 10672/64. Heading F2U. In a gear-type coupling the teeth are of spur shape incorporating the following features: (a) convex crest or crown 41, (b) convex curved taper γ or barrel of the flanks towards both ends, (c) chamfer a of at least the entry end 40, (d) rounding off in plan of at least the entry end 40. In addition the crown tip of each tooth is preferably chamfered off at an angle #. Fig. 5 (not shown), all three angles a, #, γ preferably lying between 15 and 30 degrees. The tooth formation assists crash engagement of the coupling elements, the form of coupling described being similar to that of Specification 1,034,304 and including a lead-in cone 28 and associated sealing ring 30, Fig. 6 (not shown).
