Abstract
1,033,045. Lasers. CARL ZEISS-STIFTUNG, [trading as CARL ZEISS]. June 15, 1964 [June 14, 1963], No. 24715/64. Heading H3B. [Also in Divisions A5 and G2] In a device for producing coagulation in the fundus of the eye in which a highly intensive radiation source having a small aperture, such as a laser, is used, a lens system is arranged between the source and the eye to allow for ametropia of the latter. A simple collective lens, Fig. 2 (not shown), may be arranged at a distance from a laser approximately equal to its focal length the eye being so spaced from the focus that the diverging rays are substantially all within the aperture of the pupil. In a modification two lenses 2b, 2c are used, the lens 2c having the longer focal length being spaced at distances approximately equal to its focal length from both the eye 12 to be treated and the shorter focal length lens 2b. The latter is associated witb a diaphragm 2b<SP>1</SP> which is adjustable by ring 17 for varying the size of the spot produced on the fundus, and lens 2b and diaphragm 26<SP>1</SP> are slidable together to accommodate any ametropia of eye 12. The whole apparatus, including laser 1, is mounted on an arm 8 supported by a linkage for universal movement from a tripod, a weak light source and apertured mirror 11 allowing the opthalmologist 13 to focus the device.
