Abstract

1,032,970. Screening devices. CANADIAN INGERSOLL-RAND CO. and BIRD MACHINE CO. May 14, 1964 [May 17,1963], No. 33312/65. Divided out of 1, 032, 969. Heading B1D. In a screening device (Fig. 1) comprising concentric screens 12,14 enclosing an annular space 18 into which fibrous pulp for screening is delivered, the screens are cleaned by elongated foils 22 rotated about the screens' axis across the faces of the screens, and the foils are supported at one end only and are of hollow construction (Fig. 14) whereby bending of the foils under centrifugal force is substantially zero. The foils may be of aluminium, titanium, plastics or stainless steel and hermetically sealed to exclude liquid. A rotatable spider 24 carries two foils 22 which act on the inner face of outer screen 14 and two foils 20 (Figs. 8,12 not shown) which act on the outer face of inner screen 12. Since substantially no bending of the foils occurs they are mounted parallel to the screen axis and surfaces (Fig. 13, not shown). Strained pulp is withdrawn at 38 and rejected material is directed into trap 40.
