Abstract
826,158. Centrifugal strainer separators. BRITISH WEDGE WIRE CO. Ltd. Aug. 22, 1957 [July 30, 1956], No. 23418/56. Class 46. Material to be centrifuged is introduced at o, Fig. 1, to the region between an inner member a, mounted on a shaft c and rotated by a shaft h through gears g,f, e, d, and a perforated basket i, mounted on a hollow shaft j and differentially rotated by shaft h through gears g, f, m, k. The filtering surface of the basket i is provided by panels of longitudinally-disposed, generallywedge-shaped wires q, Fig. 5, separated by tapered solid panels t, Figs. 1 and 5. The wires are located with their thicker dimension at the inside of the basket so that the spaces between the wires increase outwards as shown in Fig. 5. Each wire has spaced portions of circular cross-section where it is wound around rods s, Fig. 1, which secure the wires in the panels. The circular-section parts are thicker than the wedgesection parts so that the wedge-section parts of adjacent wires are spaced apart. Instead of wedge-section the wires may be of any section e.g.(T-section) such that the distance between adjacent wires at points outside the inside surface of the basket is greater than the distance between them at the inside surface. The upper portion of the basket is imperforate to absorb the initial impact of the material and thus reduce wire wear. The inner member a has external paddles b.
