Abstract
1,032,969. Screening devices. CANADIAN INGERSOLL-RAND CO. and BIRD MACHINE CO. May 14,1964 [May 17,1963], No. 20093/64. Heading B1D. A cylindrical screen 12 or 14 is cleaned by at least one elongated foil 22 rotating about the screen axis, the foil being supported only at one end and its spacing from the screen varying along its length, when the foil is at rest, to an extent which is cancelled by bending of the foil under centrifugal force when the foil rotates, so that the foil is parallel to the screen surface when rotating. Figure 1 shows a pair of coaxial screens 12, 14. Fibrous paper pulp is pumped into annular space 18 between the screens, strained pulp leaves at 38 and rejected material is trapped at 40. Rotatable spider 24 carries four foils (20), 22, foils (20) acting on the outer face of inner screen 12, foils 22 on the inner face of outer screen 14. Figure 6 (not shown) illustrates how a foil (20) is mounted, at an angle (B<SP>2</SP>) to the screen 12, on the spider 24 by a skim (522), and a key (562). Foil (20), at rest, is closest to screen 12 at its free, lower end. The foils may be helical in form to push rejected material towards 40. The screens may be slightly conical (Fig. 9 not shown). Figures 11,12 (not shown) illustrate foils in cross-section which direct rejected material away from the screen.
