Abstract

Granular and/or pulverulent substances, which cake or agglomerate on exposure to moisture, are rendered free-flowing by the addition thereto of phosphates having an average particle size less than 0.03 m , the phosphates being sparingly soluble in water, inert to the above substances, and existing substantially in the ortho form. The phosphates may be made by spray-drying, at 190-450 DEG C. in air or combustion gases, a solution or suspension of divalent metal or aluminium salts of strong acids, or mixtures thereof, in orthophosphoric acid. The divalent metal may be calcium. The granular and/or pulverulent substances sensitive to moisture may be fertilizers, e.g. NH4NO3, or a fertilizer comprising 13% N, 13% P2O5, and 21% K2O, or flowers of sulphur, or common salt.ALSO:Phosphates having an average particle size less than 0.03m , and which are sparingly soluble in water and exist in the ortho-form, are used as a lubricant in tablets and as a carrier for active substances e.g. fungicides, herbicides-trace elements. The phosphates may either be impregnated or admixed with the active substances. The phosphate may be Ca3(PO4)2. Flowers of sulphur may be rendered free-flowing by incorporation of said phosphates. Phosphates impregnated or admixed with active substances may be added to cereals or fertilizers.
