1,032,638. Feeding fuel slurry to furnaces. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. July 7, 1964 [July 17, 1963], No. 28038/64. Heading F4B. A slurry of pulverized carbonaceous fuel in liquid fuel is fed to a furnace by a pump 38 from a tank 28 where the pulverized fuel from a separator 22 is mixed with fuel oil from a pipe 30 by a rotary mixer 34. The rate of delivery to the burners is controlled in accordance with the furnace load, a by-pass valve 41 enabling the constant speed pump 38 to maintain a constant pressure in the burner supply header. A flow measuring device 50 in the tank outlet controls the amount of raw fuel fed to the pulverizer 12 through a device 14, and the rate of flow of oil to the tank 28 is controlled in accordance with the level of slurry in the tank. The flow of oil to the tank may be controlled by the rate of slurry from the tank. The arrangement may be used to feed a fuel slurry to a blast furnace.
