Abstract

1,032,482. Making sheet metal. DOW CHEMICAL CO. Jan. 26, 1965, No. 3323/65. Heading B3A. Spheroidal, atomized pellets of magnesiumbase alloy are passed through a rolling mill while both the pellets and rolls are at a temperature below that at which the pellets substantially stick together on being rolled and preferably above that at which the pellets fracture readily. The resulting flattened pellets are heated to 350-550‹ C. and formed into fully densified sound sheet by passing them between the heated rolls of a mill. The atomized pellets may be of any magnesium-base alloy, more especially those containing aluminium-zinc, zinc zirconium, thorium-zirconium, thoriummanganese and thorium-zinc-manganese alloys.
