Abstract

In a heterogeneous reactor, of the swimming pool type, test specimens may be irradiated with gamma-rays or neutrons. The core radiation is projected downwards through the base of the pool into a test chamber. The irradiation channel through the concrete biological shield includes a neutron moderator consisting of a vessel fitted with heavy water. The specimens may be moved into the radiation space on a trolley or on a rotatable horizontal disc. Horizontal irradiation channels are also formed in the concrete shield. A gamma-ray filter may be moved across the irradiation channel outlet.
