Abstract

1,031,992. Reactor control rods. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY (EURATOM). May 7, 1963 [May 11, 1962], No. 18033/63. Heading G6C. A nuclear reactor control rod is formed so as to permit a continuous adjustment of its dimensions to be effected during use in the reactor. In one embodiment a number of concentric cylinders of neutron absorbing material may be moved axially with respect to each other and the reactor core. A second embodiment employs a flexible plate rolled so as to have a spiral cross-section in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the roll. Adjustment is effected by winding the plate round the central axis, thereby reducing the external diameter.
