Abstract

1,031,941. Creasing sheet materials. HARRIS - INTERTYPE CORPORATION. March 17, 1964 [March 19, 1963], No. 11312/64. Heading B6J. [Also in Division B4] Apparatus for creasing and cutting sheet material, e.g. to make box blanks, comprises a rotatable master cylinder 11 and cylinders 12, 13 rotatable therewith, the cylinder 12 having creasing members 26 co-operable with creasing members 21 on the cylinder 11 and the cylinder 13 having cutting members 28 co-operable with cutting members 22 on the cylinder 11, and the cylinders 12, 13 being independently adjustable relative to the cylinder 11. The members 21, 22, 26 and 28 are in the form of projections etched on plates 20, 25 and 27 secured to the respective cylinders. The projections 22, 28 overlap but do not contact each other during the cutting operation. The cylinders 12, 13 are each adjustable axially, radially and angularly relative to the cylinder 11. The bearing assemblies 34, 35, Fig. 2, of cylinder 12 are axially adjustable relative to sleeves 36, 37 by means of one or more rotatable bolts 45, the sleeves are adjustable radially by means of nuts 56 on screw-threaded rods 55 fixed relative to cylinder 11 and a helical gear 39 keyed to cylinder 12 is axially adjustable by means of one or more rotatable bolts 50, the gear 39 engaging a helical gear 38 driven from a driving gear 38a. The material is fed by means of grippers provided on the cylinder and on feed and advance cylinders 16, 17. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the creasing cylinder is arranged in advance of the master cylinder which in turn is arranged in advance of the cutting cylinder.
