Abstract

Antimicrobial compositions comprise at least 80% by weight of a pentachlorophenol mixed fatty acid ester in admixture with between 0.5% and 10% by weight of pentachlorophenol and between 0.5% and 10% by weight of thymol, all percentages being based on the total weight of the composition. The ester is preferably derived from a mixture of C6 to C22 aliphatic carboxylic acids. The compositions, which are particularly suitable for rendering textiles and impervious wall covering materials antimicrobic, may be applied in the form of an aqueous emulsion.
