Abstract

Compositions comprise a halogen-containing polymer and as stabilizers 0.01 to 10 weight per cent based on the polymer of at least one sulphur free organotin compound and 0.01 to 5 weight per cent based on the polymer of at least one thioether. Specified polymers are polymers of vinyl chloride, vinyl bromide, vinyl fluoride and vinylidene chloride, and chlorinated polyethylene. The compositions may also comprise plasticizers, fillers, pigments and dyestuffs, and further stabilizers, e.g. organic sulphoxides, disulphides and selenides, epoxy resins, hydroxybenzophenones and benztriazoles. Many suitable stabilizer components are listed and examples describe compositions comprising polyvinyl chloride, and (1) dibutyl tin maleate, dilauryl sulphide and dilauryl disulphide; (2) dibutyl tin maleate, lauryloleyl sulphide and dilauryl sulphoxide; (3) dioctyl phthalate, dibutyl tin crotonate and laurylstearyl sulphide; (5) dibutyl tin maleate and lauryl tert-butyl sulphide, and (6) dioctyl tin di-(butylmaleate), distearyl sulphide, epoxidized soya bean oil and 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone; and comprising (4) a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, dioctyl tin maleate, dilaurylthiopropionate and dilauryl selenide.
