Abstract

A ceramic sound-absorbing material is formed from a mixture of water, Mississippi M and D clay or a similar material, and an inorganic wool, preferably blast-furnace or phosphate slag wool; sodium bicarbonate may also be included. The properties of the clay are specified. The materials are made into a slurry containing 65-95% water and, based on the solids content, 60-80% inorganic wool and 40-20% clay with, if desired 0.5-9% sodium bicarbonate, the mass is formed into a sheet on a screen, dried and fired at 1000-1500 DEG F.
