Abstract
1, 030, 526. Classifying solids. POLYSIUS G.m.b.H. Oct. 23,1964 [June 11,1964], No. 43241/ 64. Headings B2H and B2P. An air classifier, Fig. 1 (not shown), which is substantially of the type described in Fig. 1 of Specification 934,424, is modified in that the outer conical casing 1a bounding the diffuser 11, Fig. 3, has its edge, adjacent the start of the deflection zone at the outlet end of the diffuser, surrounded by an annular gap 16 for the introduction of secondary air and in that the outer chamber 12 for collecting coarse or heavy material is excluded upwardly beyond the gap 16. The gap 16 is bounded externally by a guide sheet 18 which defines with another guide sheet 19, an annular gap 20 for further supply of secondary air. The sheets 18, 19 form one side of an annular channel 17 which is fed with secondary air. The secondary air serves to reduce the possibility for the coarse or heavy particles of re-entering the main air flow drawn through the inner chamber 13 which collects fine or light material and hence of being entrained into that chamber. The funnel 5 bounding the chamber 13 externally is adjustable lengthwise of the classifier.
