Abstract

659,683. Pulverizers. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Aug. 25, 1949, No. 22125. Convention date, Aug. 25, 1948. [Class 59] A pulverizer comprising a cylindrical vessel for containing material to be pulverized and supplied with fluid imparted with a rotary motion, is provided with a common outlet pipe, for the pulverized material and the fluid, which is connected to the cylindrical vessel by a lead-off of cross-section progressively diminishing between the vessel and the outlet pipe. The pulverizing chamber 17 is provided with a flat face 16 opposite a tapering lead-off zone 19. Material to be pulverized is fed to the pulverizing chamber by means of a vertical tube 14 connected with a screwconveyer 12 and a feed-hopper 11. Non- radial jets 20, 21, 22 supplying fluid, e.g. air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide or a liquid, are provided to produce rotary motion of the material to be pulverized within the pulverizing chamber, the inner surface of which may be made rough, e.g. by a wire mesh lining or corrugations. Material leaving the pulverizing chamber 17 through an exit 26 passes through a cyclone separator 27 and a bag filter 29 for the separation of the pulverizing fluid. A screen 24 may be placed between the pulverizing chamber and the lead-off zone 19. In a modification (not shown), the screen is of conical form placed across the leadoff zone. In another modification (not shown), the capacity of the pulverizing chamber may be doubled by providing a second series of non-radial jets and leadoff zones on both sides of the chamber. Fluid may also be supplied to the feed pipe 14 by a downwardly-directed jet 31.
