Abstract

1,029,904. Push-button tuning mechanisms. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 31, 1964, No. 13128/64. Heading H3Q. The invention relates to a tuning mechanism of the type disclosed in Specification 1,028,073, in which each push-button 1 operates a stripshaped slide 3 carrying a semi-circular disc 7 whose edge engages pins 25, 27 on a rotatable tuning member 31 when the push-button is depressed. The disc 7 is rotatable about a pivot 9 on the slide and is normally locked in position by means of a slider 21 and a U- shaped clamping lever 11, which is depressed (see Fig. 3), to release the disc for the purpose of setting. In the present instance continuous tuning is also provided by means of a knob 41 which rotates a shaft carrying worm 43 engaging worm-wheel 45; this is carried loose on shaft 23 which drives the tuning means, e.g. a sliding core, via member 31 and a steel wire 33. The worm-wheel 45 is normally clamped to the shaft 23 by means of clamping members 47, 49 and pressure plate 51 which are connected by three or more pins 51, together with cup spring 55; it can however be released by means of a bell-crank 59 carried by pivot 57. This comes into operation whenever a slide is depressed, the limb 15 of each clamping lever 11 engaging a lug-shaped projection 63 carried by a shaft 61 which is thereby rotated, causing a second lug 65 to operate the crank 59 and so release the worm-wheel 45 before the disc 7 comes into contact with pins 25, 27. To reset the disc 7 for another station, the push-button is pulled out, carrying with it slider 21, so that clamping lever 11 falls (see Fig. 3). The tuning is then set manually; upon resetting the slide limb 15 travels under the lugs 63, 65 and the tuning is not disturbed; when lever 11 finally rises, limb 15 lifts lugs 63, 65 and shaft 61 against the pressure of spring 65, and so crank 59 is not disturbed. Upon withdrawal of the slide 3 the shaft 61 falls and normal pushbutton operation is available.
