Abstract

Polymer emulsions are produced from solutions of highly polymerized hydrocarbons by emulsifying the solutions in water and distilling off the solvent using a cation-active emulsifier as emulsifying agent. A non-ionic emulsifier and/or a protective colloid may also be present. Specified polymers are those of butadiene, isoprene, propylene, butylene, propylene-butylene mixtures, propylene, ethylene mixtures, mixtures of dienes and monoolefins and ethylene-propylene-hexadiene mixtures. Solvents are benzene, hexane, cyclohexane, isopropylenecyclohexane gasoline fractions and Diesel oil fractions. Specified emulsifiers are tetradecyl pyridinium bromide, alkyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, lauryldimethyl benzylammonium bromide and trimethyl-lauryl ammonium methylosulphate while non-ionic emulsifiers include sperm oil alcohol quadragintaglycol ether, antoleic acid diethanolamide with polyvinyl alcohol as a protective colloid.
