Abstract
1,029,428. Chain hoists. HITACHI Ltd. Aug. 27, 1963 [Aug. 29, 1962 (2)], No. 33903/63. Heading B8B. [Also in Division F2] In an electric chain hoist the frame comprises two side plates 1, 2, Fig. 1, the motor 34 being inserted through a hole in the side-plate 2 for attachment as by through-bolts 49 to the sideplate 1. One end bearing 36 at the driving end of the motor shaft 37 is fitted in a recessed portion 6 of the side plate 1. Reduction gears 50- 54 driving the chain sprockets 67 are arranged on the outer side of the side plate 1 within a bearing casing 4 attached to the side plate 1 carrying some of the bearings 55, 57, 59 for the shafts. A self-sustaining brake (see Division F2) is arranged in the recess 6 of the side plate 1 and is released by rotation of an operating ring 24 which controls the movement of rollers 31 moving over inclined faces 25 to axially release the brake discs 14, 15, 16 against the pressure normally applied by a spring 21. Movement of the ring 24 is effected by movements of the motor switch operating arm 71 controlled from pull cords 73, 74, Fig. 2 (not shown). The arm 71 carries a roller 81 engaging a recessed stirrup 79 attached by a link 28 to the ring 24 and arranged so that movement of the arm 71 in either direction to lift or lower the load causes the brake to release. Chain guides 75, 76 (not shown) arranged on the arm 71 are adapted to be engaged by end-stops on the chain to automatically switch off the motor. The motor 34 also carries a centrifugal brake 40 (see Division F2) which limits the rate of lowering in the event of an electrical failure.
