[Also in Division B5] A package for hot food &c. consists of a foamed plastics, e.g. styrene polymer, cup 10 with a closure 14 of the same material or of film, heat-sealed to the rim. The closure may be rectangular to extend beyond the rim to form opening tabs. Apparatus for securing the closure includes a base 18 having a slot to locate the cup and a heated platen 25 pressed down to seal the closure on to the cup rim. The platen may include a device for making a small perforation to permit escape of steam.
