Abstract
A cleaning roller for a spinning machine comprises a central core 20 (Fig. 1, not shown) with bearing extensions 25, 25A at either end and a sleeve 10 of flexible material on which there is a plurality of set of flexible radially projecting ribs 11 along the sleeve, the ribs of each set being similarly disposed on the sleeve and the ribs of adjacent sets sloping in opposed directions. The sleeve is preferably of rubber or a synthetic plastics material e.g. polyvinyl chloride and the ribs thereon may, as shown in Fig. 3A (not shown), form continuous zig-zag lines or they may be broken at the points at which they would intersect or they may be blended into a curve where they join. The rollers may be used to clear upper and lower drafting rollers and/or drafting belts. The sleeve may be made by extrusion or injection or alternatively it can be formed in two pieces the edges of which are subsequently welded together.
