Abstract

The invention comprises bis-(aminoxylyl) sulphone. This compound is prepared by reacting xylene with sulphuric acid to obtain the intermediate sulphone, nitrating to bis-(nitroxylyl)sulphone and hydrogenating the latter in presence of a nickel catalyst.ALSO:A thermoset product is produced by mixing a liquid epoxy resin in particular a glycidyl polyether of a polyhydric alcohol or phenol having a 1,2-epoxy equivalency greater than 1, a bis-(aminoxylyl) sulphone as curing agent, optionally phenylenediamine, diethylenetriamine or tetraethylenepentamine as second curing agent and a C1- 4 primary as secondary alkylene or BF3-amine complex as accelerator, and heating at 50-150 DEG C. In examples, the glycidyl polyether is derived from bi-sphenol-A.
