Abstract

Organic isocyanates are recovered from crude mixtures containing them by mixing therewith an alkylsilane, arylsilane, arylalkylsilane or mixture of such silanes and distilling off the isocyanates. The silane is one which is thermally stable, liquid under the distillation conditions and has a boiling-point above that of the isocyanate. The process is preferably applied to 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate which may be in admixture with the 2,6-isomer.
