Abstract

1,028,676. Aircraft indicating devices. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORPORATION (OPERATING) Ltd. June 18, 1964 [June 24, 1963], No. 25022/63. Heading B7W. To enable the pilot of a flying platform 2 (Fig. 1, not shown) to approach correctly an aircraft 1 on which the platform has to land, the aircraft 1 is provided on its underside with two strip lights a and b which are spaced apart along line e parallel to the line f which connects the coupling elements on the aircraft and the platform, the line serving as a sighting line for the pilot of the platform. Light b is vertical and light a is horizontal so that they appear as a cruciform, Fig. 4 (a) (not shown), to the pilot of the platform, deviation from the correct approach path being indicated by asymmetry of the lights. The lights may be mounted on a gyroscopically controlled platform so that they will not be affected by short-term movement of the aircraft about its axes due to turbulence.
